Theme: Each film featured an Oscar winning performance which was essentially wordless or non-speaking (excluding the "silent" film era):

  • A: Jane Wyman in Johnny Belinda: (Best Actress)
  • B: John Mills in Ryans Daughter (Best Supporting Actor)
  • C: Marlee Matlin in Children of a Lesser God (Best Actress)
  • D. Holly Hunter in The Piano (Best Actress)
Portraying a "deaf-mute" or "mute" is not correct because Holly Hunter was neither in The Piano (she "stopped talking" when she was 6), and Marlee Matlin was not mute in Children of a Lesser God.
The fifth such example mentioned in describing the theme was Patty Duke in The Miracle Worker (also not mute).

Thanks to all that participated!

This week there were 11 participants, with 6 getting at least one answer right. No one nails the bonus theme, though some of you came pretty close. Hats off to our lone PhD, TW for an outstanding performance.

Look down about 100 pixels from here to check the weekly scoreboard. Thanks to all for playing, and congratulations to all who guessed correctly!
